In a groove refers the brevity with which the tracks were composed. Most were written in a three week period in August 2015. A second smaller batch of 4 songs were written in January 2016. It isn’t normal for tracks to come so quickly so I was obviously in a groove.
There are few samples used in this album though it was deliberately set out to have an old-fashioned sample-based sound. At least for the first 8 tracks or so. The latter half is faster in tempo, less dusty and more electronic. The album finishes, as usual, with something more placid and nostalgic. Overall it’s more organic and less dark and industrial than Black. It harks back to Marlow but with a dozen years of extra experience! I hope you enjoy it.
