Black refers to the image of the overall sound I imaged while making the songs. But it also refers to the fact that most of the chords and notes were derived from the black keys on the keyboard giving this a different sound to previous albums. It’s best listened to on headphones and after dark. Do not expose to sunlight. It’s also an old-fashioned album and works best listened to from beginning to end.

Apart from the use of drum samples raided from a variety of sources, this album has used few other instrument samples. Nevertheless the aim was to get an old-school analogue, dark and dusty sound. Going back over the tracks to list out the samples used, I was surprised to find so few; I was convinced the sound of the album was due to heavy sample use. More of the same set of instruments were used, fewer overall than before, though more effects were implemented; this probably accounts for the overall sound across the whole album. All in all, I composed and played more of this album than any of the previous ones.

All tracks were written between 2013-14, except for Haciendo Guitarras (2012) and Gojira (2010).
